Penobscot River Rafting

Penobscot River Whitewater Rafting Trip

Your day starts at 8:00 in morning where you will get fitted for all your gear and get a safety orientation by a Maine Registered Guide. Then you hop on a bus and we take you about 30 miles to the put in at Mckay Station. There you meet your guide and practice paddling before you embark on the Class 5 section of West Branch of the Penobscot River. The Ripogeanous Gorge and The Cribworks offer thrilling rides in world class whitewater while requiring precise teamwork with your guide. Great views of Mt. Katahdin and Baxter State park fill the background with moose and eagles riverside almost daily. After the Class 5 section you will have the option to enjoy surfing and maybe some "extra" rafting activities. At the half way point we break for a riverside steak and chicken BBQ on an open maple wood fire. You will be ready for a nap, but we are not done yet.

The lower half of the river starts off with a 12' water fall the flows into a wild rafting playground for surfing and fun. Also you will have the option of carrying the boat back up over the rocks and running falls again. There is surfing levels for the kids and for the adults with water fall caves and much more. Once you get your fix at the falls your trip will lead to a natural water slide that is fun for all ages. The river then turns into 3 miles of flat water where swimming and relaxing is required. Your trip ends after tackling three more rapids before you get to the take out. We then bring you back to base where you enjoy a slide and video show of your wild adventure. Because of the nature of the upper section the age limit is 14 years of age and the youngest for the full day is 10.

Double Trouble

Why not have your cake and eat it to! This is the most bang for your dollar. Then you hope on a bus and we take you about 30 miles to the Put In at Mckay Station. There you meet your guide and practice paddling before you embark on two rounds of the Class 5 section of West Branch of the Penobscot River. The Ripogeanous Gorge and The Cribworks offer thrilling rides in world class whitewater while requiring precise teamwork with your guide. Great views of Mt. Katahdin and Baxter State park fill the background with moose and eagles riverside almost daily.

This trip includes TWO runs down the Class 5 section where you will have the option to enjoy surfing and maybe some "extra" rafting activities. At the end of the trip we stop for a riverside steak and chicken BBQ on an open maple wood fire. Then we take you back to base where you will enjoy a video and slide show of your day. Age limit is 14.

Penobscot Upper Half Day

Great trip with all the excitement, but able to fit your time budget. Trip starts at 8:30 am and gets you off the river around 1pm. After Check in you will get all your gear and a safety orientation and head to the river. Trip may require you to follow with your car in the morning to the 1/2 way point. At the river you practice paddling with a Maine Registered guide.

Surfing and swimming add a perfect touch to a wilderness setting like non other. The upper half has two class 5 rapids and a class 4 to end the adventure where your car is waiting. The River Side BBQ is not included but can be added for only $10 per person. At the end of the day there will be photos and video available to view and purchase at the MRE base. Age limit is 14 years of age.

Penobscot Lower Half Day

This trip starts at noon and finishes around 5pm. MRE will give you directions to meet our staff at Abol Campground and Store. There you will be geared up and given a safety orientation and transported to the put in at the amazing 12' waterfall called Nasadahunk Falls. A Maine registered guide with whip you into paddling shape so you can enjoy surfing for all levels of intensity while checking out the waterfall caves and the natural water slide that is just around the corner.

Then you will have about an hr float trip to relax and swim before closing out the day with three class 3/4 rapids. If you need wetsuit rentals, you will have to pay and order in advance so that we can have them when we meet you at the Abol check point. After the trip you will be transported to your vehicle and invited to watch the video and photos at the MRE base. Age limit is 10 years of age.
